7th Episode [Phone calls]

[Phone calls locked to aristocracy!]

[Welcome to the 1950's. Mr. Panda is a successful banker and father known around town as a jovial and, unfortunately, clueless man. His biggest successes are Bearbank, his little princess Pilouette, his very dear daughter Toph...and, eh, there might be a third child in the middle there somewhere. Maybe.

Now that he's made his wealth, he spends a lot of his time gossiping! So if you're in the aristocracy and/or on good terms with Panda, you might get one of the following phone calls.]

[Night One]

Hello, hello...! Do you ever want to pick up a really awesome talent, even if it means you have to risk your life to learn it? Is there anyone in town like that?

[Night Two]

Hello, hello...! Don't mind me, just go ahead and start talking! Ah! But first, don't you get a really good feeling when you say "Mr. Panda" out loud? It's great, isn't it?

[Night Three]

Hello, hello...how do you think I should get beautiful women to fall in love with me without even trying? With Pillo and Toph and the other at the dance, I realize it's very quiet around here...

[Option 4]

[On night one, two, or three, Panda is still going to call your character...but what he talks about will be a total surprise! Are you brave enough to take that call?]

[OOC; Since Panda is physically using a phone for this post, this post is only open to rich people and people he might know (teachers, doctors, bank customers...). Sorry. If you pick option 4, just tell me what night and I'll have Panda come up with something just for your character. o7]

[They've got a telephone. It's mostly so that people can call the doctor when they need her, even if it isn't normal working hours. Illnesses and accidents don't wait, after all.

Many of her aristocratic friends feel like they're from a separate lifetime these days, so she's always a bit surprised to hear from the ones that have kept in closer touch. The surprise, at least, probably shows in her voice.]

Do you mean a hobby?

[Ah, how could he not keep in touch with a doctor? Ami has always been so bright and helpful, especially with the kids!]

Hmm...no, no, something more dangerous! Tightrope walking, juggling knives, wrestling bears...something like you see in the movies.

[Well, she does try her best. Besides, she likes children, and always has. Having Arya is one of the best parts of her life. Helping the children of the town is very close.]

You could get hurt trying those sorts of things without proper training and practice.

[There had been much book reading tonight after coming home from her errands elsewhere, and when the phone kept ringing... and ringing... and ringing... without anyone answering it, Cloche had just about enough.

So when she answers, she sounds pretty irritated that someone wouldn't stop calling her house.]

Yes, hello?

Ahhh...! Cloche, Cloche, is that you? It's me, Mr. Panda! It's so boring not being at the dance, isn't it? I was wondering if you could help me with something...

[He doesn't care if she sounds irritated. He's rich.]

[Noooo why was it Mr. Panda she'll never get off the phone now! For as much as her overwhelming desire is to just hang up she was taught to be polite.]

There was a dance tonight? Oh, the high school dance-- and, um, I guess so? What do you need?

[Night Two]

[Clearly Mr. Panda was calling to speak to her father instead of Fuuko, she very rarely interacts with her father's associates, but she can't help covering the phone as she says the line to herself a few times.]

Mr. Panda, Mr.Panda, Mr. Panda... Fuuko isn't sure what sort of good feeling Fuuko is meant to be experiencing, but Fuuko isn't feeling anything after saying that.

[It's alright. He'll talk to anyone once he's started drinking eating bamboo.]

Hm...maybe you're not saying it loud enough? It's a really cute name, don't you think?

Fuuko could try saying it louder... But even though Fuuko understands how cute pandas and your name are, Fuuko can still think of a much cuter name than that.

[Jade is already sitting in bed with a book. And it's certainly been one of those days. He almost has no patience for Panda's latest call. Almost.]

Have you tried looking into any type of change to your hairstyle?

Hmm...I always thought my soft black and white hair was my biggest draw. Do you think maybe a nice hat would do the trick, Mr. Curtiss?

[He sighs. Being single is so hard.]

Night Three

[Ah, Mr. Panda. Jack knows him well and even though he would rather be doing something else, Jack has had a few drinks by now.]

Well, Mr. Panda, you have to ask yourself what you're looking for in a woman. Does her background bother you?

Hmm...I'm just as interested in the back as the front, Mr. Horner.

[What a sly dog Mr. Panda is. ...Maybe he's trying to show off a little. He's a people pleaser.]

Then what you need is to simply call up the newspaper. Ask for a classified ad. Single, rich banker looking for attractive woman. Be sure it gets circulated among Lowtown. Money is your most attractive feature, so you should be sure to flaunt it.

Night 2, hope this is ok!

[ As it happens, Mr. Panda's youngest wanders into his room just as he's wrapping up a (very long, by the sounds of it.) phone call. Her terrier isn't with her right now - he's all worn out after a day of leading her around! - so she has to feel her way around the room until she finds the bed so she can sit and wait for papa to finish his call. ]

It's perfect!

[When he realizes Toph is trying to find him, he does his best to finish up his phonecall. He likes to think of himself as a good dad! Somehow, he's failing spectacularly between spoiling Pilouette and forgetting Tsuna exists, but he's certainly trying. He sets down the phone when he finishes before excitedly looking over at Toph.]

Ahhh, did you come to say goodnight to your papa, Toph? That's so sweet of you...!

[ Toph flushes, hunching her shoulders slightly. ]

Daaad. I'm not sweet!

[Peony has no idea why anyone could be calling so late on a school night, but he picks it up anyway to make it stop ringing at every corner of the house where a phone is installed. Who knows, right? It could also be important!]

[But since he's still half asleep when he answers, he mumbles into the speaker with what sounds like, "five more minutes... please hold."]

[Don't be like that, Peony...! Panda is just going to start talking anyways.]

Peony, Peony...! Do you think you could tell me twenty-five things that are cute about me? I want someone to make a fuss over me.

[What, what, what, who is this? --give him a moment! Oooh, of course, who else. Peony finally snaps more awake on his end, and answers in a cautious, yet surprised low voice (because it's the late enough for calls let alone strange ones like this and this conversation could be viewed strangely with the wife nearby):]
